The National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) reported that 90 counselors attached to schools, centers and academic units received certification from the institute to attend cases of gender violence in person. The ECO539 Competency Standard Certification will allow them to provide first contact advice to victims.

By certifying IPN staff, the institution is also accredited to provide a better service within the framework of human rights. The university also has an Ethics Committee, a body that promotes the ethical behavior of public servants and handles complaints about behaviors such as harassment and sexual harassment, as well as acts of discrimination.

The ethics committees arise in accordance with the agreement that aims to issue the Code of Ethics for Public Servants of the Federal Government, published on August 20, 2015 in the Official Journal of the Federation.

The National Women’s Institute recommended that the IPN be certified in the ECO539 Competency Standard, which is called First Contact Face-to-Face Care for Women Victims of Gender Violence. The Polytechnic informed that it maintains the commitment to continue with the certification process of the rest of the 131 counselors appointed so far.

According to the Sectoral Coordination for Gender Equality and Transversal Programs of the SEP, to certify a person, they must go through a series of filters, in which technical knowledge and skills that are important to have the ability to listen and accompany a person whose integrity and rights have been violated.
