The Inumet issued a warning to the population for strong storms

Weather conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon and that strong and punctually severe storms will be recorded in the early hours of Wednesday 27.

The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) issued a notice to the population where it reports “andn the course of the afternoon of today, Tuesday 26, a further deterioration in weather conditions is expected along the west coast, gradually moving towards the rest of the territory».

In the aforementioned notice it is stated that «dFrom the early hours of Wednesday the 27th, strong and punctually severe storms will begin to move from the southwest to the north of the country. In storm zones, heavy rains, occasional hail, intense electrical activity and very strong gusts of wind may be recorded.

It is also pointed out that “This situation will begin to improve towards the afternoon of Wednesday the 27th in the southwest with a marked drop in temperatures; while on the northern border the rains and storms (some punctually strong) will persist until the afternoon of Thursday 28».

Faced with the warning for strong storms issued by Inumet, from Sinae we recall some recommendations to prevent risk situations associated with these meteorological phenomena:

  • Stay informed about forecasts, weather conditions and warnings from the authorities.
  • Take special precautions with the most vulnerable people (children, older adults, people with disabilities, sick people). Don’t leave them alone.
  • Keep pets in protected places.
  • Remove from the environment (gardens, balconies, etc.) objects that can be propelled by the wind and become projectiles.
  • Close and secure exterior doors and windows. Avoid staying near them.
  • If necessary, take refuge in the most protected room in the house.
  • Avoid unnecessary movement of people and vehicles.
