The Humboldt Center described this Thursday as an “arbitrary process” the cancellation of its legal status and denounced that since 2020 the Ministry of the Interior (Migob) has refused to receive its legal and financial documentation, using arguments “not attached to the established in the regulatory framework”.
“This March 17, 2022, the National Assembly by Legislative Decree has canceled the legal personality of our Centro Humboldt institution, along with 24 other non-profit civil associations and foundations, under the argument of non-compliance with Law 147, General Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities and Law No. 977, Law against Money Laundering, the Financing of Terrorism and the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction,” the agency said in a statement.
The environmental organization pointed out that in its 32 years of existence it has been respectful of compliance with the National Legal Framework, especially with regard to non-profit civil associations. However, he argues that the Government repeatedly refused to accept his legal and financial documentation, “under different arguments not attached to those established in the regulatory framework for non-profit associations.”

The legislative decree approved, with 74 votes in favor, 16 abstentions and one present; ensures that these organizations have not reported their boards of directors and their financial reports according to the fiscal periods and detailed breakdowns as established by law. In addition, the Foreign Agents Law and the Law against Money Laundering are mentioned.
The Humboldt Center stated that despite this measure, they will continue working for environmental causes, protection, conservation of natural resources and territorial development. “In the same way, we stand in solidarity with all the associations and foundations that, together with ours, today suffer this arbitrary process,” he added.
