Due to the excessive increase in illegal burning that causes forest fires in the department of Santa Cruz, the Government formalized four criminal complaints before the Prosecutor’s Office against allegedly responsible for the crimes of arson and destruction or deterioration of national wealth.
From the Governorate they explained that assumed this measure due to the passivity of the authorities called by law to sanction and prevent these illegal practices.
Thus, through the Ministries of Justice, Citizen Security and the Environment“it was decided to identify those responsiblein order for them to be processed and punished through the pertinent legal channelsdespite the fact that this action is custody of the central level of the State”, assured the Departmental Secretary of Justice, José Luis Terrazas.
It also explained that the first complaint is related to the fire in the municipality of Samaipata last november 19, that came to threaten El Fuerte, patrimony of the Humanity, declared by Unesco, whose affected area exceeded 400 hectares.
The second corresponds to the municipality of Lagunillas, in the Cordillera province, specifically in the La Junta community, which damaged 1,717 hectares; The third is due to what happened in the Santo Corazón community, in San Matías, in the Ángel Caballero province, where the fire reached almost 1,500 hectares. And the fourth corresponds to the municipality of San Ignacio, Velasco province, within the Noel Kempff Mercado Park, with a damaged area of 7,615 hectares, on the one hand, and more than 10,000 on the other.
It is known that to date there are 16 active fires in 10 municipalities and that the red alert for forest fire emergencies is maintained.
