The INPE removes the heads of the Piura prison after the escape of an inmate

The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) ordered the immediate removal of the director and deputy director of the Penitentiary Establishment of after the escape of an inmate prosecuted for the crime of extortion.

In a statement released today, the INPE reported that this Sunday, October 19, at 06:30 am, the security personnel of the Piura Penitentiary Establishment, in charge of guarding the topic area, reported the absence of the inmate. Krisman Nizama Ponce, 31 years oldprosecuted for the crime of extortion, who remained in said environment because he was under psychiatric treatment.

He maintained that security protocols were immediately activated and an exhaustive search began both inside the prison and in the surrounding area.

The fact was immediately communicated to the Public Ministry and the National Police of Peru, in order to execute the actions to recapture the inmate and carry out the corresponding investigations to determine the criminal responsibilities of the case.

“The president of the INPE has ordered the immediate removal of the director and deputy director of the Piura Penitentiary Establishment. Likewise, the Internal Affairs Office has been established in said prison to carry out administrative investigations and determine the corresponding responsibilities,” the statement highlights.

Finally, it ensures that the INPE will maintain its commitment to the principle of authority, order and discipline in all penitentiary establishments in the country.
