The INM served more than 84 thousand foreign minors in the first half of the year

The majority of girls, boys and adolescents who in 2024 have been channeled to the National Migration Institute (INM) are Venezuelans.
According to data from the Migration Policy Unit (UPM) of the Ministry of the Interior, four out of every 10 minors in this situation came from Venezuela.
The figures indicate that in the first half of 2024, 84,927 migrant girls, boys, and adolescents had been referred to the immigration authority, the figure is equivalent to almost 75 percent of the total that were registered in 2023, which was 113,542 minors.
Of the more than 84,000 migrant children for whom administrative proceedings were initiated at the INM, 61,409 were between zero and 11 years of age, while 23,518 were between 12 and 17 years of age. Likewise, 95.6 percent of the total traveled accompanied.
The majority of migrant minors channeled to the INM came from South America, 59,601 between January and June of this year; While in Central America, in that period the figure was 18,760 migrant boys and girls and 3,507 came from one of the Caribbean islands.
Regarding nationalities, 34,439 small migrants (40 percent of the total) are from Venezuela, 9,334 (11 percent) from Ecuador, 9,049 (10.7) from Honduras, 7,845 (9.2) from Colombia, 6 thousand 437 (7.6) from Guatemala, 2 thousand 67 (2.4) from El Salvador and the remaining 39.2 percent (33 thousand 309) from other nations.
UPM figures indicate that in the first half of the year 13,737 Mexican migrant minors were repatriated from the United States.
Of them, 8,417 were between 12 and 17 years old and 5,320 were between zero and 11 years old.
Likewise, 7,482 repatriated Mexican minors were accompanied and 6,255 were traveling alone.
The small Mexican migrants came from Chiapas, 9.1 percent; 8.8 from Tamaulipas; 8.7 from Guerrero; the same percentage from Guanajuato; 7.5 from Chihuahua; 6.2 from Michoacán; 6.1 from Oaxaca; 5.9 from Veracruz; 5 percent of Puebla; 4.5 from the state of Mexico and the remaining 29.5 percent from other entities in the country.
