In the midst of a tense climate of discontent and social unrest derived from the rise in the products of the basic basket, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses of Argentina (INDEC) released the new report on the index of inflation in the country, in which there is evidence of a slight slowdown compared to last month.
According to the latest INDEC report, the rate of inflation in the month of April it was 6% throughout the countrywhich represents a fall of seven percentage points with respect to price index registered in the month of March, which was 6.7%.
However, although the monthly inflation index fell slightly in April, the rate of inflation accumulated in the last 12 months shot up to 58%this being the highest indicator that has been recorded in Argentina since 1992, three decades ago.
For its part, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) accumulated during the first quarter of 2022 advanced to 23.1%almost ten percentage points below the estimates announced by the Ministry of Economy in its Budget established for this year.
What were the most affected areas?
The sectors of the economy that were most affected by the rise in prices in April they were clothing and footwear; restaurants and hotels; food and non-alcoholic beverages; and health. This is how the inflation table for the fourth month of the year was left, according to INDEC data:
- Clothing and footwear: 9.9% in April and 73.4% year-on-year.
- Restaurants and hotels: 7.3% in April and 73.4% year-on-year.
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 5.9% in April and 62.1% year-on-year.
- Health: 6.4% in April and 58.5% year-on-year.
- General level: 6% in April and 58% year-on-year.
- Transportation: 5.3% in April and 56.5% year-on-year.
- Education: 3.7% in April and 56.2% year-on-year.
- Home equipment and maintenance: 5.5% in April and 50.4% year-on-year.
- Various goods and services: 5.3% in April and 50.3% year-on-year.
- Recreation and culture: 5.2% in April and 48.7% year-on-year.
- Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 3.3% in April and 48.4% year-on-year.
- Homes, electricity, water and others: 4.6% in April and 39.8% year-on-year.
- Communication: 3.7% in April and 34.6% year-on-year.
