The Commission for the Vote of Mexicans Abroad, of the National Electoral Institute (INE), approved the pilot program so that, in the 2023 elections for governor of the state of Mexico and Coahuila, Mexicans can vote in boxes in three cities of United States and one in Canada.

The model, which still needs to be validated by the General Council of the INE, provides that Mexicans can vote at the Mexican consular offices in Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles, in the United States, and in Montreal, Canada. The number of urns to be installed was not specified.

It is expected that the electoral documents and materials will be sent to the diplomatic headquarters, as well as the installation of the voting modules, on June 4, 2023, and the packages will be returned to the INE central offices the following day.
