Faced with the budget cut, the National Electoral Institute (INE) set operational priorities and for the fulfillment of constitutional commitments. However, until last night there was no agreement on how to avoid personnel layoffs or how to file a criminal lawsuit against the Colima judge who fined the councilors for supposedly not respecting the protections of the judicial reform.
First of all, he determined shieldwithout loss of resources, the production of voting credentials, the country’s main official identification in terms of the largest database, with biometrics, with coverage for the entire adult population.
Linked to the previous point, sources from the body indicated, it was determined to guarantee the full operation of just over 800 citizen service modules, where precisely the issuance and replacement of these credentials is processed, among other services.
Among the legal and constitutional commitments, the preparation of the judicial election, to be held next Sunday, June 2, stands out, but also the coordination of the local elections in Veracruz and Durango.
Another basic task for the INE in 2025 is to carry out the process for the constitution of parties, whose interested parties must meet requirements such as holding assemblies (20 state or 200 district) which must be attended by an envoy from the institute.
The INE must also review each affiliation (at least 256,030) made through a digital application and only in 204 municipalities, with a very high degree of marginalization, paper affiliation will be accepted.
Regarding the first point, related to the INE’s task of issuing credentials to vote with photography, they represent the highest expense of the 5 billion pesos requested for the operation of the Federal Voter Registry.
However, despite a cut of 13 billion pesos, from a general requested pool of 40 billion, the counselors and officials assure that they will not affect the forecasts for the production of credentials, because it is the basis for updating the registry and the issuance of the nominal list.
Thus, in the first days of January, when there are less than 150 days until the judicial election, they must prepare the ballot models, one of the main challenges of the INE if the number of candidates determined by the evaluation committees is taken into account. the three powers of the Union, as well as the 881 disputed positions of ministers, magistrates and judges. For now, different proposals are circulating, especially to determine what citizens will do when faced with dozens of names of candidates, whether to cross out, select or write in a section the names of their choice.
