On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, which was commemorated yesterday, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) recognized more than 13,400 teachers involved in 73 postgraduate medical specialties, 10 post-technical nursing courses, 10 technical careers, 10 professional technical baccalaureate careers and two nursing degrees, as well as training and continuing education processes.

In a statement, he indicated that IMSS teachers, in addition to their work in front of the group and as tutors in clinical fields, are also promoters of research in education and humanities in health.

He recalled that the education processes began in 1943, when the organization was founded. Then, in 1947, the first nursing school was opened, in 1954 the training of residencies as specialists was accepted, and with the creation of a teaching office in 1963, the formalization of the process of training and monitoring of all teaching work began.

In 1983, when the Department of Teacher Training was established, an area dedicated full time to providing support for the promotion of teacher training was founded, and in 1992 the first Training Center for Medicine Teachers was created, which is currently at the XXI Century National Medical Center, under the name of Center for Educational Research and Teacher Training.

Through teaching, the IMSS pointed out that it contributes to the country’s compliance with three of the sustainable development objectives of the 2030 Agenda established by the United Nations Organization (UN): health and well-being, quality education and reduction of inequalities.
