The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) reported the launch of the first Neurodevelopment Center, where it will be possible to identify in a timely manner possible alterations in the neurological development of premature babies.
The new unit is located in the High Specialty Medical Unit Hospital of Gynecology and Obstetrics number 4 in the San Ángel area, Mexico City. It was inaugurated by the director of Economic Benefits, Célida Duque, who explained that for the care of the newborn ahead of time there will be an individualized follow-up plan, training will be given to parents and primary caregivers to continue the rehabilitation at home and give continuity to the work of the hospital.
He pointed out that the early care of premature children includes neurohabilitation actions, in order to achieve their maximum potential. It is about, he explained she, giving them the opportunity to have a better quality of life and optimal development.
Later, the official toured the hospital facilities, in particular to verify the progress in the application of the IMSS Comprehensive Maternal Care model, in which women in labor are accompanied by their families and with non-invasive techniques, such as a freely chosen posture or the intake of liquids, the rights holders carry out the process in a calm and uncomplicated manner.
Duque also visited the premature infants service, which has 36 special care cribs. The average occupancy in this area is 90 percent, it was reported.
She was also in the single clinic for risk assessment where women in the first trimester of pregnancy are cared for and with various studies the probability of diseases such as hypertension, preeclampsia, chromosomal abnormalities and preterm birth are calculated.
