To inform the population about the different family planning methods, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has an easily accessible QR code, as well as guidance in the Family Medicine Units (UMF) through triplets, talks, wall newspapers and rotafolios.
Within the framework of the International Family Planning Day, Dr. Guadalupe Mendoza Vázquez, Medical Programs Coordinator of the Medical Benefit Directorate (DPM), stressed the importance of promoting contraceptive methods and their advantages in the prevention of unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
“Raise awareness among young people and adolescents about the importance of making informed and responsible decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health, guaranteeing the free exercise of sexual rights and reproductive rights,” he said.
The specialist reported that Social Security has a family planning program and a specific youth youth, which include counseling, delivery of triptychs, delivery of contraceptive methods and sexual and reproductive health education, in addition to the National Prevenims Strategy.
It also performs days of reproductive health, of vasectomies without a scalpel in commemoration of the “Father’s Day” on the third Sunday of June and the commemoration of World Vasectomy Day, in the month of November.

“In the IMSS, the health personnel in charge of imparting and promoting family planning includes the health team, mainly the family doctor, the family planning doctor, the nurse specializing in family medicine and the maternal child nurse, who offer information and guidance on contraceptive methods, as well as the necessary support and monitoring for an informed choice and the proper use of these,” he said.
He pointed out that Social Work personnel also supports the orientation and access to family planning services, especially in social context and access to information.
The specialist called on the general population to go to a second and third level UMF hospital to receive, through medical or paramedical personnel, the orientation and information that allows them to make free, responsible and informed decisions regarding their reproductive health.
