The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, announced that the District continues to implement measures to provide inclusive and comprehensive care to older adultsin addition to expanding the number of beneficiaries of monetary transfers and increasing the amounts. How were they benefited during 2024?
Galán highlighted that as of November 2024, around 37,000 new older people who have the lowest Sisbén classification (A and B), who previously did not receive financial support or transfers, began to enter the monetary transfer program.
In addition, From January 2025, around 75,000 older people will benefit from a significant increase of 15% in the amount of the monthly transfer, which will go from $130,000 to $150,000.
In addition to these initiatives, The District opened new community kitchens and works to strengthen and increase the capacity to care for older adults in the Colombian capital with the objective of guaranteeing the well-being of this vulnerable population through social assistance, health services and recreational activities.
How did Bogotá treat older adults in health?
The District reported that throughout 2024 in Bogotá, 114,599 people over 60 years of age were served within the framework of various assistance and recreational programs:
• Transformative education: 200 people accessed diplomas in art, fashion and sewing, ecology and cultural management at 4 universities; and 260 strengthened their digital literacy skills.
• Cultural inclusion: 2,300 people participated in the FIAV Bogotá, guaranteeing their equitable access to cultural activities, 1,200 participated in the Book Fair – FILBO and 1,800 in Christmas is Culture.
• Therapeutic innovation: 169 people benefited from art-therapeutic laboratories to improve their physical, mental and social health, and it was possible to foster their intergenerational connection.
• With Centro Día al Barrio he carried out extramural activities that impacted the quality of life of older people in Bogotá.

• In addition, direct attention began in dining rooms, community spaces and street housing units.
• With the Centro Día a tu Casa service, the quotas for personalized care in homes were doubled, going from 100 in 2023 to 200 in 2024. This achievement not only ensures comprehensive well-being from the comfort of their homes, but also provides valuable respite time for their caregivers, strengthening capacities and improving the quality of life for everyone. 276 elderly people were assisted thanks to 4 teams of 13 professionals distributed throughout the city.
• In 2024, 2,090 older people will also be served in 20 operating units where comprehensive and personalized care is offered. for older people in situations of poverty or vulnerability, without family or social support networks, providing safe and comfortable accommodation, adequate nutritional component, decent clothing and promotion of healthy habits.

• The team Bogotá Accompany You in Old Age attended to more than 1,000 cases of violence and violation of rights, activating justice and restoration routes throughout the city with 16 professionals distributed throughout the Colombian capital.
• In the Transitional Care service 842 elderly people were served in 5 operating units.
