The importance of US investments in Mexico in 5 graphs

This meeting, in which investment announcements by US companies in Mexico are planned, comes after several expressions of concern about the uncertainty of the approval of the Judicial reform.

Sheinbaum mentioned that in the dialogue that will be established with companies in the United States, investment issues will be discussed, how to better take advantage of the T-MEC and the relocation of companies (nearshoring), and what is sought is that it not remain just a measurement. of money, but of well-being, better jobs, salaries and infrastructure for the country.

FDI brings with it several positive aspects for the Mexican economy such as economic growth, job creation, competitiveness, economic diversification, innovation and technological transfer.

  • FDI from the United States in Mexico presents ups and downs, so far, the lowest figure is recorded in 2009, in the Felipe Calderón administration, and its peak is observed in 2022 with López Obrador, which is explained by the merger of Univisión with Televisa and for the restructuring of Aeroméxico.

  • Investment from the United States represents 4 out of every 10 dollars of what Mexico receives in FDI. In second place is Spain, but with a distant percentage (9.66%).

  • The United States has its favorites within the country, Mexico City leads the top entities with the most flows from the neighboring country, accounting for 27% of total FDI.

  • The United States’ interest in Mexico is concentrated in manufacturing, specifically in the automotive sector, but the financial sector is not far behind.

  • Mexico also wins in trade, around 80% of the country’s exports are destined for the United States, which allows it to have a surplus.
