The impediments you will have, if you did not renew your expired DNI

There are no more extensions to be able to . If your National Identity Document, whether yellow, blue or electronic, has expired, you had until June 30 to keep it valid, the date on which the deadline to obtain a new document and update your data expired. Do you know what happens if you don’t renew it and the limitations you may have with an expired DNI?

The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) informs that it will no longer extend the validity of expired DNI, “having fulfilled its role of helping Peruvians in crucial stages of the pandemic”. The extension of the validity has lasted more than two years and, until now, a total of 5,922,952 Peruvians, between adults and minors, maintain their National Identity Document (DNI) expired.

“Because the Identification records base their information on current data, it is important and a priority for citizens to renew their expired DNI, in order to update their image and personal data, to combat identity theft and child trafficking”, said Iván Torres, head of Citizen Services at Reniec, explaining why there will be no more extensions. Do you know how it can affect you? ?

WHY IS THE DNI IMPORTANT?

Having a DNI is important: it is a right and an obligation. Its about only reliable instrument of identification when it contains up-to-date informationboth the main data of the citizen such as his address, his marital status, his photograph, his signature and his fingerprints.

  • Bank procedures, such as withdrawals at the teller window, requesting loans or receiving remittances.
  • You will not be able to collect the bonds issued by the State, as well as other subsidies.
  • Trips within the country or abroad.
  • Marriage or divorce proceedings.
