These measures were announced within the framework of the Week for the Rights of Children and Adolescents, led by the Children’s Platform.
Through the “ABC Plan”, the commune proposed actions that seek to reverse the impact of the pandemic on the child and adolescent population.
At first, it was reported about specialized care services for children and adolescents in situations of mistreatment and abuse, “ABC + Educación” (support for children with learning difficulties) and the socio-community space for mental health care with adolescents.
The launch of the “Kit of support materials for the Child Nutrition Program”, “ABC Food Support Program for girls, boys and pregnant women”, “ABC Por tus ojos” with care space in the municipal polyclinics and the “Campaign for the prevention of child abuse”. The approach strategy for situations of gender violence and generations, “ABC + Cultura y Deportes”, “Montevideo a jugar” and “Movida Joven” were also reported.
Subsequently, another set of initiatives will be added, such as the implementation of spaces for children in cultural, artistic and sports events, among others.
The Mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, the director of the Department of Social Development, Mercedes Clara, and the coordinator of the Secretariat for Children and Youth, Santiago Lanza, participated in these announcements.
