The International Monetary Fund (IMF) affirmed this Thursday that the economic measures announced by the Minister of Economy, Silvina Batakis, “are consistent” with the objectives of the program that the organization signed with Argentina.

The Director of Communications of the Fund, Gerry Rice, during his usual press conference, referred to the fact that “the minister recently and publicly reiterated her commitment to the implementation of the program supported by the Fund and the agreed objectives of the program”.

Rice immediately added: “The measures announced by the minister are consistent with the objectives of the program that were agreed to strengthen macroeconomic stability and begin to address the deep-seated challenges of Argentina”.

“We salute the efforts to control spending, improve collection and coordination on public debt, so we remain committed to the minister and her team to implement the economic support program“, expressed the official of the Fund, about the specific announcements made by Batakis.

In this sense, the IMF official remarked: “The objectives are maintained and I would like to repeat that we had a very positive first contact with the minister and we hope to continue a constructive agenda on the agreed objectives”, in relation to the fact that the replacement of ministerial figures After the departure of Martín Guzmán, the structure of the current program agreed between the IMF and Argentina did not change.

As for Batakis, Rice indicated that the new minister is already working with the IMF staff, and expressed that they “welcome the efforts to control spending, improve collection and coordination on public debt.”.

Likewise, the Fund reiterated its commitment to continue to be “constructively” involved in the recovery of the Argentine economy.
