The province of Tierra del Fuego, which has the Malvinas Islands in its jurisdiction, implemented a series of actions to claim Argentine sovereignty over the archipelago shortly after the completion, on April 2, of the 40th anniversary of the start of the war with Great Britain in 1982.
One of the initiatives consists of launching a sspecial series of debit cards for customers of Banco de Tierra del Fuego that bear an image alluding to the Malvinas and they refer to the 40th anniversary of the war.
On the other hand, the law that obliges the use of a logo linked to the archipelago in the overalls of all primary students in the province.
Fuegian deputy governor, Mónica Urquiza, explained that both measures correspond to regulations approved by the provincial Legislature itself during 2021, as “part of the activities planned throughout this year to remember the conflict, honor veterans and veterans of war and reaffirm the claim of sovereignty over the Islands”.
Meanwhile, the president of the Malvinas, South Atlantic and Antarctic legislative commission, Federico Sciurano, remarked that the issuance of bank cards with the image of Malvinas is “very significant” for this date and “we are happy to see it come to fruition”.
“We believe that part of the recognition of sovereignty is to always keep our territory in mind. The axis of this commission is to value issues in our province linked to something as sensitive as sovereignty and Antarctic development issues,” said the provincial legislator.

The BTF debit cards that are already in circulation are printed with an image of the outline of the islands and the legend: “2022 – 40th Anniversary of the Heroic Deed of Malvinas”.
In turn, the call “Thiago Law” (number 1390) and sanctioned on November 18 of last year, is based on an initiative by Thiago Huenchillán, a 7-year-old boy from Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut, who had an argument with his teacher while defending the sovereignty of the archipelago.
As a consequence of that episode, the legal initiative arose to impose the use of the Malvinas logo on the overalls or uniforms of Fuegian students.
The heads of the Center for Malvinas Ex-combatants in Ushuaia, Conrado Zamora, and the Center for War Veterans in Río Grande, Raúl Villafañe, held a meeting with provincial legislators in order to tell them about the activities that are being prepared to commemorate the 2nd of April.
