The municipality of Cáceres, Antioquia, was the scene of a tragic incident that left four members of the National Army dead and two more injured. The event occurred during an operation led by the Deployment Force against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats, aimed at combating criminal organizations operating in the region.

The troops of the National Army carried out an insertion maneuver using the method known as fast rope, which consists of the descent of soldiers from a helicopter through ropes.
During this procedure, according to the Army, the soldiers accidentally fell after the rope they were trying to descend failed. Likewise, they clarified that it was not an attack by armed groups.
Three of the soldiers died at the scene, while a fourth died shortly after due to the severity of their injuries.

The Colombian Military Forces have confirmed the identity of the deceased soldiers and deeply regretted their deaths. The uniformed men who lost their lives are Captain Hugo Rafael Moncada, Second Sergeant David Masías Buitrago, professional soldier Jhon Stiven Mamian and professional soldier Ipia Barerra Mauricio.

The National Army has reiterated its commitment to security and the fight against illegal armed groups in Colombia, especially in Bajo Cauca, a region that has historically been plagued by violence related to drug trafficking. In addition, the Ministry of Defense highlighted the continuous recovery work in the area and the support for the families of the affected soldiers.
“The Ministry of Defense has arranged an inter-institutional team to provide support to the families of our deceased and injured personnel,” the Defense portfolio reported through its X account.
