From the year 2026 work will be started constructionreconstruction, rehabilitation and supervision of 53 bridges in 15 provinces scattered in different regions of the country.
The intervention contemplates 26 new bridges and 27 will be rebuilt according to the Ministry of Public Works. This is the first group of a plan that will cover more than 150 bridges.
The project, which is called “Climate resilience management of the infrastructure of bridges in the Dominican Republic”, run by the Executing Unit of Projects Financed with External Resources, is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) under loan contract 5901/OC-DR, and is in the process of public tender international.
He loan contract contemplates an amount of 200 million dollars, which at the current rate would add up to more than 12.8 billion pesos.

The scope of the work program, which will last 18 months, includes infrastructure construction, reconstruction and maintenance of bridges and hydraulic structures; installation of piles, supply and assembly of structural steel, road safety measures and signage.
In addition, structural recovery and functional, adaptation of access and security measuresprovide equipment and tools for climate resilience. Also, environmental management and social (includes an environmental control plan for the construction; occupational health and safety program, as well as community participation plans, and emergency response plans in the construction phase.

The provinces in which the bridges are: Saint Christopher with 8; Mount Silver 7; Montecristi 6; María Trinidad Sánchez 5; Azua with 5; Duarte 4; Santo Domingo 3; Elías Piña 2; Saint John 2; La Vega 2; Valverde 2; Greater Herd 2; Sánchez Ramírez 1; Puerto Plata 1; James 1; Monsignor Nouel 1, and Santiago Rodríguez 1.
The intervention project and construction of bridges chase reduce vulnerabilities and prolong the useful life of these infrastructures in the face of climate change; expand coverage and improve its quality and competitiveness; transport and logistics services, directing them to the integration of the territory, the support of productive development and competitive insertion in the international markets.
