During version number 20 of the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court, the prosecutor of the Court, Karim khan, referred to the tasks that his office will develop in Venezuela after the announcement of the opening of a research in the country.
Khan stressed that the job of his office “is to follow the evidence, see what the reality is, observe if crimes have been committed under the Rome Statute, and if crimes have been committed, see if the evidence reveals who is responsible ”.
The Prosecutor added that in no way his office is part of the “regime change business” in Venezuela, but always has as its center “addressing impunity and investigating independently” without any “Predetermined goal”.
Karim Khan concluded by saying that he hopes that thanks to mechanisms such as constructed and sustained dialogue or complementarity, achieve positive progress against impunity and added that during 2022 will visit Venezuela and Colombia again.
