The Public Ministry sent a letter to the Ministry of Defense to request the installation of a battalion.
The representative of Buenaventura, Jefferson Potes, reported that more than 500 people remain in confinement due to the armed clashes that are taking place in Bajo Calima, a rural area of the special district of Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca.
Furthermore, he reported that, after an expanded transitional justice committee, The institutions agreed to maintain presence constant in the territory in order to accompany the affected communities.
“An expanded transitional justice committee was held, and commitments were made by the institutions to have a permanent presence in this territory. We know the complexity of Bajo Calima and the difficult situation that its inhabitants live in,” said the representative.

Likewise, he pointed out that after the recent violent events andBetween three and eight families would have been displaced towards nearby paths, seeking refuge from the confrontations.
“We know the complexity of Bajo Calima, and what the leaders have stated is that more than 500 families feel confined. They have been affected to carry out their economic activities and productive,” added Potes.
On the other hand, the representative of the Public Ministry questioned the silence of the National Government in the face of the humanitarian crisis where hundreds of families live in this area of the Colombian Pacific. In that sense, requested the Ministry of Defense to evaluate the possibility of installing a battalionn permanent military that allows violence to be mitigated and tranquility to be restored.
“We also do not understand why the Public Force has not commented on this fact. We send a letter to the Ministry of Defense requesting a solution for install a permanent battalion in the Colony. Historically, the Palacé Battalion operated there, which generated security, and we believe that this proposal can contribute to the end of the conflict in the area,” he pointed out.

It should be noted that in this rural area of Buenaventura there have been multiple violent actions as a consequence of the territorial dispute between the front ‘Jaime Martínez’ of the dissidents of the FARC, the ELN and the Golf Clanor, for the control of illegal economies in Bajo Calima.
