The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, assured that the Executive will intervene in the Villa Española club, because there is a statute to comply with and a group of members demanded the intervention. The Minister of Education and Culture, Pablo Da Silveira, defended the intervention for the “non-compliance with article 5 of the club’s statute that prohibits any political or religious statement”, and because club players took pictures inside the institution’s facilities against the LUC and which later went viral on the Internet.
The voices against the decision of the MEC were strongly felt from the Broad Front, social, union, human rights and sports organizations.

Likewise, the president of the National Institution for Human Rights and the Ombudsman’s Office (INDDHH), Juan Faroppa told Informal Breakfasts on Channel 12 that it is possible that the INDDHH may have jurisdiction in the situation.
“I understand that the INDDHH has to intervene in that case, if it does not receive a complaint it has to intervene ex officio. I am going to propose it”, advanced the hierarch.
He clarified that he will propose it to the Board of Directors “not because of the prejudgment that the Ministry of Education and Culture acted badly or irregularly, but the institutional role that the INDDHH has is to request information so that the State has the possibility of providing the information formally clearer regarding the case”.
He recognized that the MEC has the power to intervene in civil societies when certain types of situations arise. “In all cases in which situations occur that may violate rights, the Institution has to intervene preventively.”
