SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The Cuban comedian Ulysses Toirac He left for posterity a hilarious anecdote that happened in the 1990s when he was part of the cast of the popular program Sabadazo, when the crisis of the so-called Special Period hit Cuban families.

As reported in FacebookCuban comedians enjoyed such popularity that they were as famous and beloved as “the Beatles.” However, on many occasions, the salseros lowered their egos, because they were “a world apart.”

“Just like the comedians of Saturday night “They were stars in the Cuban firmament. There was a boom in Cuban dance music and the main figures of the orchestras were Marvel superheroes,” he wrote.

The salsa singers were always late for the taping of the show, he said. According to the comedian, the salseros always arrived late for the taping of the show. “So most of them were sandpapering… or they just got the sheets from the concert the night before. They usually arrived late,” he said.

Meanwhile, the actors, dressed and in character, sat chatting in the makeup room, waiting for the singers.

One day when he was supposed to be on the Paulito FG show, it was three in the afternoon and Antolín el Pichón, desperate and upset, began to complain about the abuse of the musicians. “A nice guy (Paulito) with a lot of talent, whom I still love and admire. But he was a real jerk. Why… Wait and wait and wait and wait,” described Ulises Toirac.

After such a long wait, Antolín said: “Sir, these people are already abusing us by arriving late. I think they are competing and sitting in the car on the corner, waiting to show up ten minutes later than the one who arrived later” (…) That Paulito! As if he were Alain Delon!

And in that moment He didn’t notice that the singer had poked his head into the living room without saying anything.

“That guy is not going to compare himself to Formell, kid, don’t fuck with me! He’s a tractor next to a Ferrari! With his nonsense and his giggles, I don’t know who the hell he thinks he is! He’s a…………..!” said the country boy from Manacas, while Paulito looked at him seriously.

After everyone saw the scene, Carlos Otero, red in the face and unable to contain his laughter, gestured for him to turn around.

So the comedian turned around and upon seeing Paulito said, almost inaudibly: “What’s up, dude?”

“I couldn’t count the number of people hitting the walls and lying on the floor, choking on laughter. I was enjoying laughing like few times in my life,” he concluded. Toirac.

The comedian, creator of funny characters such as Chivichana, often delights his audience on social media with funny anecdotes or mockery of the Cuban situation.

As an actor, screenwriter or director, he has left his mark on some of the most popular programs on Cuban television, such as Saturday night, And what are you laughing at? and Do you swear to tell the truth?.

He has also been part of the films Alice in Wonderland (by Daniel Diaz Torres) and Adorable Lies (by Gerardo Chijona).

A critic of the Cuban regime and a denouncer of the crisis facing the people, Ulises Toirac has suffered censorship and cancellations of shows in clubs and theaters in the country.
