The highest human rights authorities of the country’s 24 jurisdictions repudiated the assassination attempt against Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and considered that it was a “dangerous escalation in the incitement to violence”.
This was reported by the Nation’s Human Rights Secretariat in a statement, in which it specified that the repudiation was manifested in the framework of the 36th plenary session of the Federal Human Rights Council held this week in the former ESMA.
The human rights authorities assured that the attack “signified a dangerous escalation in the incitement to violence” and considered that “threatens democratic life and its institutions.”
The document also highlighted “the irrevocable commitment to the democratic pact established in 1983, which conceives political rights as fundamental rights”.
“To promote its exercise, the highest standard of action of the State is required, as well as of other fundamental agents for democracy, such as political parties and people’s organizations,” the statement added.
The text, in turn, repudí “the political, judicial, media devices, known as ‘lawfare'”and considered that “they undermine democratic institutions and show the intention to reverse access to civil and political rights.”
The plenary session of the Federal Human Rights Council is proposed as a meeting place for high-ranking Human Rights authorities from all over the country.
The work agenda of this edition was aimed at strengthening the federal articulation in the area of promotion and protection of rights, highlighting the importance of human rights indicators as inputs for the design of public policies, the statement reported.
