During the 2025 Green Heart Prize ceremony, the patrolman Edgar Andrés Arévalo Arévalo He was awarded as the best police in Colombia, in recognition of his courage, commitment and vocation of service with citizens. This event, organized by the Heart Green Foundation in coordination with the National Police, highlights the most specimens of the country every year.

The Arévalo patrolman was selected from hundreds of applications thanks to a heroic action that occurred during a high -risk operation. Despite having been injured in compliance with duty, the uniformed decided to continue supporting his classmates, ensuring his protection and demonstrating a deep sense of duty and courage.


Arévalo told the FM the dramatic moment in which he lost his right arm after an attack perpetrated by the ELN in the rural area of Pelaya, Cesar, while protected his team. According to its testimony, the armed group installed two bomb cylinders on the route through which the patrol was traveling, causing a devastating explosion: “We were affected by the ELN group, they put two bomb cylinders to the patrol pass,” said the uniformed. As a consequence of the outbreak, he lost his right arm immediately, but, despite the seriousness of his wounds, he managed to repel the attack with his left hand to defend his companions, demonstrating an act of value in the midst of a limit situation.


This act of value not only saved lives, but also reflected the spirit of delivery that characterizes the best members of the National Police. His behavior was highlighted by superiors, colleagues and citizens, becoming an inspiring example inside and outside the institution.
During the ceremony, another twelve finalists were also recognized, who received tributes for their outstanding actions in different parts of the country. Each of them represents different regions and specialties, evidencing the police commitment to the protection of Colombians in various contexts.
The Green Heart Award is one of the most important awards for members of the Public Force in Colombia, since it makes visible real stories of service, sacrifice and leadership. With this award, it seeks to strengthen citizen trust in the institution and motivate the police to continue with an exemplary work.
The history of patrolman Arévalo reaffirms that, despite the difficulties and risks of police work, there are still men and women who deliver the best of himself for the welfare of others. His recognition not only honors his act of courage, but also dignifies police work before Colombian society.
