This year the Havana World Music (HWM) festival returns, which from May 26 to 29 will take place in the capital’s Club 500, formerly José Antonio Echeverría, after being postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19 .
Some twenty artists make up the event’s poster, and many of them are among those who were already confirmed for the festival in 2020, although others are added and the organizing committee promises surprises.
In this way, the public will be able to enjoy the talent of countries such as Canada, Italy, Germany, Haiti and Cuba, with artists and groups such as Haydé Milanés, Dale, Kill The Party, Havana Meets Kingston, Bim Bun Balaton, Raulito Prieto, Rommel, Toke, Waahli and Wesli.
Later, the rest of the guests at this edition will be informed, while the participation of the Cuban X Alfonso, who will take the HWM stage on the last night of the festival, is confirmed.
The singer Eme Alfonso, founder of the meeting, commented during a meeting with the press that the Club 500 will be the main venue, a place that hosted the event in its beginnings and that will now allow the public to return in person, given its architectural characteristics.
A singularity this year is that contrary to past editions, there will only be one stage through which the guest poster will parade.
Collateral activities will be held during the three days that the meeting lasts, and Fábrica de Arte will be one of the places that will host concerts by the invited artists.
For the first time, HWM is sponsored by the Musical Recordings and Editions Company (Egrem), and ties with the British Council are maintained, said the singer.
Eme Alfonso stressed that the call to participate in the First Base contest is now available on the festival’s website, open to all those groups that are taking their first steps, inclined towards alternative music.
As indicated by the poster of the event, and the hashtag that accompanies it on social networks, #HWMReload, this 2022 Havana World Music comes with renewed energy.
Havana is going to dress up as Havana World Music, said Eme Alfonso.
