With the arrival of the season summer 2025, the government of Neuquén celebrated the official opening of the Pichachén International Pass, a key connection between Argentina and Chili. Located more than 2,000 meters above sea level, this border crossing not only facilitates transit between both countries, but also represents an opportunity for economic and tourism development in the region.
The minister of Tourism from Neuquén, Gustavo Fernández Capiet, highlighted the importance of the pass, located 60 kilometers from El Cholar. “The road is in optimal condition and will allow safe transit throughout the summer season,” he assured. Furthermore, he stressed that this connection is essential to promote trade, cultural exchange and binational integration, becoming a key tool for the growth of northern Neuquén.
From the side Chileanlocal authorities agreed on the strategic value of Paso Pichachén. Jaqueline Cárdenas Millar, Seremi of the Government of the Bío Bío region, emphasized the investments made to guarantee the safety and comfort of the crossing. “It is a step that strengthens local economies and ensures a positive experience for Argentine travelers who wish to visit us,” he stated.
At the local level, the mayors of El Cholar and Chos Malal celebrated the opening as a unique opportunity to promote the tourism and promote comprehensive projects in areas such as culture, sports and education. Silvia Canales, community leader of El Cholar, stressed that the step will make the cultural and landscape richness of the region visible, while Nicolás Albarracín, from Chos Malal, promised quality service for visitors.
The Pichachén Pass is consolidated as a key connection axis between Neuquén and Chilistrengthening binational ties and positioning the province as a leader in border infrastructure.
