MIAMI, United States.- The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) left the National Electric System (SEN) again this Monday due to a breakdown in the boiler area, according to information from the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
The Guiteras, who had managed to synchronize with the SEN at dawn of this same Monday and reach a generation of 180 megawatts for approximately five hours, it presented a failure again, according to the state media report.
In this regard, Misbel Palmero Aguilar, general director of the thermoelectric plant, explained to ACN that “specialists from Mexico, the province of Holguín and the CTE Guiteras itself had managed to restore functionality to a series of elements that affect the correct electrical functioning ”, affected by the collapse of the SEN last Tuesday after the passage of Hurricane Ian.
This new failure increases the tensions of the Cuban electrical system, and according to the manager, the cooling time in the boiler is currently being complied with, a process that can reach 36 hours.
Subsequently, those involved will prepare to carry out the definitive diagnosis of the fault in the installation, where they also prepare to carry out around 60 tasks in parallel with the repair of the boiler. Estimated outage time is four days.
Palmero Aguilar assured ACN that the Matanzas CTE has “the necessary human resources” to carry out the action plan and, if it is warranted, “we will request more support from the brigades of the Power Plant Maintenance Company.” (EMCE)”.
La Guiteras, founded more than three decades ago and located in the western part of the country, where the largest electrical loads are concentrated, “managed to synchronize at dawn this Monday and raise the load to 180 megawatts for approximately five hours, at which time in which the interruption occurred due to the failure in the boiler”.
In Cuba, in addition to CTE Guiteras, units 6 and 7 of CTE Mariel, CTE unit Otto Parellada, unit 3 of CTE Santa Cruz, unit 4 of CTE Nuevitas, unit 4 of CTE Nuevitas, unit 2 of CTE Felton and unit 4 of CTE Renté. Likewise, unit 3 of the CTE Renté is undergoing maintenance.
