Havana/A fire in the Guido Pérez brewery, in the municipality of Cotorro, Havana, was reported at dawn this Friday by the neighbors. In the photographs of the event, which circulated rapidly in networks, you can see how a thick cloud of smoke rose above the building.
So far, authorities have not spoken about the cause of the fire or reported the disaster. The photos that have been published show an unusual amount of ambulances and a strong police surveillance.
“Many ambulances and firefighters are happening,” a source at the scene told this newspaper. The company is manufactured beer and soft drinks, both in barrels and bulk, and its managers have several times the shortage of raw materials that this industry has to operate.
Although there is no evidence that it is, the hypothesis that an ammonia spill occurred in the factory begins to gain strength, stuck by the silence of the authorities.
In a report published last year by the official press, an official said that the production capacity of Guido Pérez was 600 daily barrels. The building, which is in poor condition, uses its workers to execute sporadic work of “recovery.”

Created in 1993 and attached to the Ministry of Food Industry, the building in which Guido Pérez is located is, however, very old. It was built in 1948 and was owned by the Cervecería Modelo, one of the subsidiaries of the Ronera Bacardí company.
