On November 8, at the Third Criminal Sentencing Court of Guatemala, Ricardo Martinelli Linares presented a memorial in which he agreed to be extradited to the United States.
The Foreign Ministry of Guatemala announced that in the next few hours of this Tuesday, November 23, it will be transferring the file of Ricardo Alberto Martinelli Linares to the United States Embassy to coordinate his extradition.
Since last November 18, the Judicial Branch of Guatemala has notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the extradition authorization of the son of the former president, Ricardo Martinelli.
Ricardo Alberto was also detained in Guatemala by an arrest warrant issued by the United States, which accuses him of alleged money laundering during his father’s tenure, in a corruption case linked to the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
On November 8, at the Third Criminal Sentencing Court of Guatemala, Ricardo Martinelli Linares presented a memorial in which he agreed to be extradited to the United States voluntarily, after being detained since July 2020.
The US embassy must now carry out the procedures for the extradition of the eldest son of former President Martinelli, who will also face charges for the alleged commission of money laundering and corruption linked to Odebrecht.
