The Guajiro “Forrest Gump” will run 80 km through the desert to give smiles to children

A young man will travel through the Guajiro desert to deliver toys and hope to rural communities.

Andrés Alcalá will run 80 kilometers between Maicao and Riohacha to collect 1,200 toys for children in La Guajira. A solidarity initiative that seeks to inspire and unite the community.

Inspired by the famous movie Forrest Gumpthe young guajiro Andrés Alcalá will travel 80 kilometers from Maicao to Riohacha on November 23, with one purpose: to bring smiles to the children of La Guajira. He will do it together with six other young people, who will face temperatures of up to 40 degrees on a journey through the desert in the north of the country.

The challenge, which does not seek medals or trophies, aims to raise 1,200 toys that will be delivered to communities in the south and Alta Guajira during the end of year season. “Outside of the character of Fort Gang, what we want is to show a different side of La Guajira, young people who are committed to change and good causes,” explained Alcalá.

The day will begin at 3:00 in the morning in Maicao and the runners are expected to arrive in Riohacha around 1:00 in the afternoon, after more than ten continuous hours of effort on the asphalt of the Troncal del Caribe.

Guajiros will be able to join the challenge with donations at the points enabled in Riohachawhere the collected toys will be displayed and last-minute contributions will be received. The event, more than a competition, will become a solidarity party for children.

“We want to show the country that in La Guajira there are young people with a different mentality, who are also committed to change, effort and good causes.“added the runner.

More than a race, Andrés Alcalá’s initiative is a demonstration of resistance and hope, a gesture that reminds us that in every kilometer traveled along the Guajira roads we also run for the dreams and joy of its people.
