The Actrices Argentinas collective called for a demonstration on Thursday at noon at the Brazilian consulate in rejection of the decision of the Superior Court of Brazil to return “To zero pages” the trial against Juan Darthés for sexual abuse of Thelma Fardín after understanding that it should not be resolved in a federal jurisdiction.
Amnesty International will join the demonstration to “accompany Thelma Fardin in her fight for justice, both for her and for all victims of gender-based violence and sexual abuse,” the organization said in a statement.
Actresses in a statement considered the decision of the Brazilian justice as “a message of impunity, re-victimization and violence” and assured: “We are not going to let it go. We call on all the organizations, the media of the women’s and diversity movement and of society as a whole to concentrate tomorrow (Thursday) at the Brazilian consulate“.
The document calls for a meeting this Thursday at 12 at the Brazilian consulate located at Carlos Pellegrini 1363.
“On February 7, the Federal Regional Court of São Paulo granted an appeal filed by the defense of Juan Darthés and ordered to stop the trial that had been taking place in federal justice,” the text of Actresses indicated.
Mariela Belski, Executive Director of Amnesty International Argentina, stressed that exposing Thelma to the possibility of having to reiterate her testimony represents a justice that lacks a gender and human rights perspective.
“Furthermore, this panorama is intensified by the lack of participation and information in the framework of a judicial process that places the victim in the place of a spectator,” Bielski said.
Amnesty stressed the importance of these types of cases “don’t go unpunished and that, with this, a dangerous message is sent to the girls and women of Argentina and Latin America, that they cannot trust the system of administration of justice”.
The process had begun on November 30 with the declaration of Fardin, who for more than four hours gave his testimony about the sexual abuse of Darthés in 2009 in Nicaragua, when she, together with the actor and another group of companions, were on a tour. of the television strip Patito Feo in that country.
After Fardín’s statement, a new day of testimonials was held in which the actress Calu Rivero testified and the process went into recess due to a judicial fair, to continue at the end of January with two more days of witness statements.
“This decision returns the judicial process to pages 0, without developing the foundations and removing recognition from the victim, since her lawyers cannot access the full ruling,” said the statement from Actrices Argentinas.
“The hearing process had been developing correctly, even the jurisdiction of the trial had been resolved favorably by the judge in first instance in a ruling of more than 15 pages, 7 months before the trial began,” the text continued.

“With the oral trial in the final stage, this is a message of impunity, of revictimization and violence. We are not going to let it go,” the document stated and concluded with a request for “Justice for Thelma and for all victims of abuse Enough of impunity.”
