This Monday, the Government will present a bill to extend the time granted to citizens for maternity or paternity leave, since the country is one of the furthest behind in the matter.
Thus, the executive power will present a project of equal parental leave, which will include monotributistas and self-employed workers, as announced by the Government.
The project that will be called “Caring in Equality” will seek that the Government create an “Integral System of Care Policies in Argentina” to promote the distribution of care work with a gender perspective.
The initiative will be presented by President Alberto Fernández, at 3:00 p.m. in the Colón Park of Casa Rosadawhere the president will announce all the details of the new law.
Said project had been announced by the Head of State on March 1, when the new period of the legislative agenda began. At that time, the president stated:
I will send a bill to achieve an equal parental leave regime in our country. We will extend days for maternity, paternity and adoption and we will include monotributistas and self-employed workers.
This, given that Argentina is one of the countries with the most backwards in the parental leave regime, because while the International Labor Organization recommends at least 98 days, in the country 90 are granted to mothers and 2 to fathers.
“The unequal distribution of care work is at the heart of gender inequalities. Like other countries, we will send a bill that establishes a comprehensive care system with a gender perspective.”.
How will the bill that the Government will present work?
The Executive power establishes that the extension of parental leaves be done gradually, so as not to affect employers so much.
This in order to equalize, in a staggered manner, maternity and paternity leave for all genders and types of family, including adopters.
