After the article of the 2023 Budget was rejected with 134 votes against, in which it was sought that the judges pay the income taxthe Government assured that it will redouble its commitment and will insist on this measure.
The head of the bench of the Frente de Todos, Germán Martínez, indicated that despite the fact that for now the judges are not reached by the tributethey will seek other mechanisms to ensure that this sector pays the income tax.
“The rejection of the subject of income tax We judges do not have to experience it as something definitive, the issue is installed. The situation may be delayed, but we have to work serenely to seek consensus to eliminate that privilege,” Martínez said.
The leader also added: “The debate is much more mature in society and in the media than in the political establishments themselves and not to mention the judiciary.”
He also argued that the fact that the sector is exempt from the tax is an “incomprehensible privilege”, which is in line with what President Alberto Fernández said on Wednesday, who described the fact as “incomprehensible”.
“What we have is a sector that has been exempted from paying income tax without any logical argument and with absolutely privileged salaries compared to those of the public administration”, argued the president.
Although the project was rejected, the head of the Frente de Todos assured: “I am convinced that sooner rather than later, this issue can be discussed and approved in the Chamber of Deputies.”; The leader even considered that the rejection of the proposal was not a “defeat”.
Who voted against the proposal
The initiative for judges, prosecutors and judicial workers to start paying the tribute it was promoted by the Front of All; however, most of the opposition blocs in the Chamber of Deputies, along with some pro-government deputies, rejected the proposal.
In this way, the Together for Change block voted unanimously against this initiative together with the Federal interblock and the Left, while on the part of the Front of All there were 5 negative votes.
