The Government, through the Metropolitan presidential delegate, Constanza Martínez, supported the actions of the police officer who used his institutional weapon and shot a subject in a procedure in the El Monte commune.
The incident occurred when the man – denounced for domestic violence – tried to attack police personnel with a cement block. As a result of this, the uniformed officer used his service weapon and shot him in one of his legs before arresting him.
Along these lines, the delegate Martínez explained that “the aggressor threw stones and made threats, among them, of throwing a cement block at the patrol chief, for which he proceeded to use his service weapon in legitimate defense, shooting at the assailant’s left leg.
“This action was carried out within the framework of legitimate defense by a trained official who complied with the institutional protocol, responding proportionally and avoiding more serious injuries,” he said.
“Given this situation, we support the measure, which was adjusted to the officer’s right to defense,” closed the delegate Martínez.
