The Minister of the Interior, Carolina Toha, reported this Saturday afternoon that there are 22 deaths from the forest fires that affect the country. In addition, he warned that the area burned this week is equivalent to that of a full year.
Regarding the deaths, the head of the Interior explained that 16 have occurred in the Biobío Region, five in the Araucanía Region and one in the Ñuble Region.

The Secretary of State reported that there are 251 forest fires in progress and warned that “in the last week we are having the equivalent of the area burned in a full normal year.”
Along these lines, he said that “28 of the hundreds of fires that have been dealt with these days are equivalent in surface area to what is burned in a full year as well.”
In turn, he reported that there are 1,429 people sheltered and 554 injured. Of the latter, 16 correspond to major burns.
He also reported that 15 educational establishments have been “hit by fire.” The same has happened with two posts.
Let us remember that Minister Tohá announced on Saturday morning that the Government decreed a State of Exception for the Araucanía Region. The Executive has already applied this measure in the Ñuble and Biobío regions.
In turn, the head of the Interior reported that the Foreign Ministry requested international help to strengthen the fight against forest disasters. The objective is ships and brigades to Chile.
