The electricity distribution companies that provide public service to a total of 12 communes of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA) and 12 parties in the south of Greater Buenos Aires (GBA), Edenor and Edesur respectively, requested more increases from consumers. in the public hearing for the adequacy of rates.
The representative of Edenor, Federico Méndez, requested before the Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE) a “transitory adaptation of rates electric power distribution”. The Edesur representative, Jorge Lemos, requested an identical measure, but none showed data on these increments intended.
On the other hand, Walter Martello, ENRE comptroller, stated emphatically that the distribution companies Edenor and Edesur “are not going to obtain the rate that they ask for: they are going to get the rate that users can pay in the current economic and social context and that contributes to the reduction of the inflationary index. The rate ordering it cannot go in a different lane than the other prices”.
To these statements, Martello added: “we think it is extravagant to claim first world rates while offering a third world service. It is bizarre not being able to manage and run a business in a non-competitive market, with captive users and without the option of opting for an alternative service”.
First power outage of the year
Just minutes from the beginning of the year 2023, a pyrotechnic balloon crossed the “security” of one of the Edesur substations, reaching the high voltage network that caused a service cut for thousands of CABA users. “A problem in the high voltage network generated a cut at 00:23 that affects some neighborhoods in our concession area in the Federal Capital,” they reported from the electricity distributor.
The affected neighborhoods of CABA were Caballito, Flores, Liniers, Mataderos, Almagro, Versalles, among others. In addition, according to unofficial estimates, the power outage affected some 400,000 users. “Once our teams were able to rebuild the affected area within the Substation, the service was normalized in stages”, the last of these phases only occurred at 03:00 on January 1.
