From Paris, Alberto Fernández confirmed the candidacy of Cecilia Todecawho currently serves as Secretary of International Economic Relations of the Foreign Ministry.
In this sense, Cecilia Todeca He will face the candidates from Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Costa Rica, also proposed by the presidents of each nation. In the case of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro introduced Ilan Goldfajn, who also had the support of President-elect Luiz Inació Lula da Silva.
For his part, from Mexico, Manuel Andrés López Obrador proposed Alicia Barcena. From Ecuador they nominated Augusto de la Torre, while from Costa Rica they proposed Laura Chinchilla and, from Chile, Nicolas Eyzaguirre.
The vote for the election of the new president of the IDB will take place on November 20in an assembly of governors that will take place in the city of Washington, United States.
The vacancy for the presidency of the IDB became available after Mauricio Claver Carone was removed from his post in September of this year for having a romantic relationship with his chief of staff, Jessica Bedoya.
After conducting an investigation, not only was the relationship between the two verified, but it was learned that Claver had increased Bedoya’s salary by 40%. It should be remembered that Claver was the first American to assume the presidency of the IDB, a position that was historically reserved for a Latin American.
Who is Cecilia Todesca?
Todesca, 51, is an economist from the University of Buenos Aires and has a master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York. He served as deputy chief of staff between 2019 and 2021.
In addition, he worked together with Mercedes Marcó del Pont, at the Research Foundation for Development (FIDE) and at the Central Bank. In October 2021, she was appointed by Santiago Cafiero as Secretary of International Economic Relations of the Foreign Ministry.
