Through a statement, the Ministry of Economy announced on November 17, 2021 that a total of $ 55 million will be allocated to achieve these purposes.
According to the State portfolio, a loan of $ 45 million with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). These resources will be used to improve security and social rehabilitation services, through an investment program that will be executed by the National Comprehensive Care Service for Adults Deprived of Liberty (SNAI) and the Constitutional Court.
On the other hand, the Ministry assured that $ 10 million of resources have been allocated from the General State Budget (PGE). Those money They will serve to address the most urgent issues of the prison emergency, in accordance with “the requirements made by the corresponding entities.”
The detail of the distribution and destination is as follows:
- $ 8’829’353 for the National Service of Comprehensive Attention to Adults Deprived of Liberty (SNAI). The objective is maintenance of buildings and civil works; acquisition of equipment and materials for the control and surveillance of the deprivation centers of the
freedom throughout the country; acquisition of vehicles and materials for control; payments for basic services, among others. - $ 1,200,000 for the National Police. The resources will go to the provision of fuel; and maintenance, spare parts and accessories of the automotive fleet to increase the
nationwide patrolling. - $ 57,500 for the National Service of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences. The objective is the purchase of spare parts and accessories for the automobile fleet to transfer forensic medical personnel to the city of Guayaquil and other travel expenses. (JS)
