“The Government is responsible for the migratory lack of control”

Abel Martinezcandidate for the presidential candidacy for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and mayor of Santiago, on Monday blamed the Government of the migratory lack of control which he claims exists in the country.

This statement comes after the National Health Service (SNS), announced that in the last nine months there have been 32 thousand births of Haitian women in labor.

“We have said on multiple occasions that this is a government of media measures, that they only stay in announcements to calm and try to lower the water that they always have up to their necks, but they must know that there are Dominicans who are not going to let our guard down. when it comes to preserving our identity”, assured Martínez in statements offered in a press release, ,

He questioned the fact that, in September of last year, the authorities announced that only Haitian nationals who presented medical emergencies would be treated in hospitals.

“We are talking about 32,000 births registered in nine months, not counting those that are not registered for various reasons, for example, those who give birth in their homes, in the bateyes that are mined, in the streets, as happens in your country. of origin,” he said.

He pointed out that international organizations, which support these situations, cannot be above the Constitution.

“We cannot continue to allow ourselves to see how our identity languishes every day in the face of a form of silent invasion that increases under our noses,” he said.

He recalled that: “In 2012 we said that in 30 or 40 years, half of the population in the Dominican Republic would be Haitian. Unfortunately, time has proved us right and with worse prospects.”

“Haitian women come to give birth here because Haiti they have to pay to be treated, but once they give birth, they do not return to their country, they continue illegally in our territory, having more children, burdening the health system, increasing the number of undocumented immigrants,” he stated.

He criticized the “hypocrisy and complicity of the authorities”, which, instead of promoting and encouraging these organizations and the international community to assert the human rights of Haitian nationals in Haitian territory, pretend that a poor country with its own deficiencies and needs like the Dominican Republic, carry on its shoulders the solution of another country.

He also warned that the Government must be vigilant and desist from programs promoted by some sectors, to provide Haitian workers with Dominican documents, ensuring that, to grant a foreigner’s card or identity card, the laws clearly establish what the procedures are.
