Before the passage of the hurricane Fionathe Dominican government is preparing in the next few hours to issue a resolution declaring this Monday non-working.

In a press conference, issued by the Emergency Operations Center (COE), the administrative minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza asked the population to pay attention to the information from the relief agencies with caution.

It is recalled that Fiona became the third hurricane of the Atlantic season this Sunday as it approaches the island of Puerto Rico, where it threatens heavy rains, floods and mudslides.

Fiona is a category 1 hurricane, out of a total of 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (80 miles), according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC, in English).

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, approved this Sunday the declaration of a state of emergency in Puerto Rico in the face of the tropical storm Fionawhich is expected to become a hurricane when it reaches the island in the next few hours.
