In recent weeks, the Government has incurred in contradictions and failed to comply with its determinations on the carrying out the Population and Housing Census, the non-extension of the school vacation and the prohibition of the use of biotechnology.

The most recent change of position, in just hours, occurred from the Ministry of Education. The Vice Minister of Regular Education, Bartolomé Puma, said that “It is not convenient” to extend winter vacations throughout the national territory, so that possibility was ruled out.

The clarification was made after the parents and departmental authorities request said extension due to the increase in respiratory diseases.

Hours after rejecting that proposal, the The Ministries of Health and Education determined to prolong for one more week the school break. Students will return to their classrooms on Monday, July 25.

The second contradiction lies in carrying out the census. The National Institute of Statistics (INE) tried for months to convince that the pre-census stage was in optimal conditions and that it was possible to carry out the national survey on November 16, as established by Supreme Decree 4546.

After several observations and after the meeting with the Council of Autonomies, President Luis Arce decided postpone the census between May and June 2024 because there are delays in the cartographic update and the census ballot. In addition, the information is almost nil.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the head of state and his ministers signed Supreme Decree 4760, which makes the postponement official and modifies Decree 4546 of July 21, 2021.

Another determination not fulfilled by the Government is the prohibition, according to law, of entry of genetically modified seeds or products (GMO) that today are imported from Argentina.

A research work carried out on June 25 by Santa Cruz Agropecuario, endorses the existence and commercialization of transgenic corn in Santa Cruz through the state owned Emapa.

The information based on the results of laboratory tests validated by the laboratory of the Directorate of Health and Food Safety (DSIA) of the Departmental Agricultural and Agricultural Health and Safety Service of Santa Cruz (Sedacruz), concludes that 7 of 10 trucks with corn, whose samples were collected in different points of the department, including those stationed at the entrance to the grain storage silo of the state company Emapa in Mora, the focus of the field work, is transgenic.
