He Government has made a significant decision by canceling the privileged retirement of the former vice president Beloved Boudou. This measure, officially announced on November 15, 2024, has generated extensive debate in the country’s political and social sphere.
Beloved Boudouwho served as vice president of the Nation during the second term of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (2011-2015), was convicted in 2018 of passive bribery and negotiations incompatible with public office in the well-known Ciccone case.
The Supreme Court of Justice confirmed his sentence to five years and ten months in prison in December 2020. Since then, Boudou has been serving his sentence under house arrest.
The Ministry of Human Capital, headed by Sandra Pettovello, and the National Social Security Administration (ANSES), headed by Mariano de los Heros, were in charge of making the measure official.
According to the statement issued by the Ministry, the decision is based on the confirmation of a final criminal conviction that affects the legal budget required to maintain the privilege of retirement.
The central argument is that “having been found guilty of a crime against the public administration in the exercise of its public functionmade it inadmissible that he could continue to receive, directly or indirectly, privilege assignments.”
Conviction
In other words, the criminal conviction of Beloved Boudou invalidates his right to receive a privilege pension, which in his case amounted to more than 6.3 million pesos per month. The decision to cancel Boudou’s retirement has been met with various reactions.
On the one hand, sectors of the opposition and part of public opinion have applauded the measure, considering it an act of justice and a step towards transparency and equity in the management of public funds.. They argue that it is unacceptable that a person convicted of corruption continues to receive special benefits from the State.
