The Secretary of the Knowledge Economy, Ariel Sujarchukwill announce this Monday new measures to boost the growth of the activities of the basic knowledge services (SBC) sector.
“We are building a comprehensive policy to drive the strategic growth of Argentina based on the knowledge economy, an activity that is increasingly federal and transversal to the entire production chain.. With the new tools granted to companies, we generate advantages that encourage job creation, promote exports and stimulate the training and education of new talents,” said Sujarchuk.
Exports of Knowledge-Based Services (SBC), reached, in the second quarter of 2022, 2,060 million dollars, which represents 22.6% more than in the same period of 2021 and 19.2% compared with 2019.

In a statement, the Palacio de Hacienda stated that “this is the fifth consecutive year-on-year increase, and it was the quarter with the highest SBC exports in history.”
“The knowledge economy is a State policy that this government will continue promoting because we believe that it is a fundamental part of the development agenda to generate quality employment and foreign exchange for the country.. This sector is one of the pieces that we have to integrate into production to move towards the 4.0 economy, which is present and future,” stated the Secretary of Industry and Productive Development, José Ignacio de Mendiguren.

According to data from the Center for Production Studies (CEP-XXI), in the good performance of the SBC two items of greater weight stand out: business services and computer services. Business services totaled external sales of 1,204 million dollars and grew by 30.6% year-on-year and 15.8% compared to 2019.
The item represented 58.4% of total SBC exports and contributed the greatest positive impact on the general performance with 16.4 percentage points. In this way, it registers five quarters of uninterrupted year-on-year rise.
Which items grew the most?
Inside, the highlight growth of the two main sub-items: professional and consulting services, where exports represented 51.6% of the total and rose 30.6%; and technical services related to engineering, architecture and commerce, which represented 34.8% of the total and rose 32.9%.. Lastly, exports of research and development services expanded 25.2% (with 13.6%).
Computer services exported USD 636 million, which represented a year-on-year increase of 13.6% and 36.9% against 2019. They represented 30.9% of total SBC exports with a positive impact of 4.4 percentage points. This is the fifth consecutive year-on-year increase, and it recorded the best second quarter of the series (the previous one occurred in 2018 with USD 567 million in foreign sales).
Among the other items, which accounted for 10.7% of total SBC exports, the year-on-year evolution of charges for the use of intellectual property stood out (+19.4%, with a representation of 3.3% in the total external sales of SBC) and personal, cultural and recreational services (+12.5%; 5.7% of the total).
The telecommunications and information item fell 7.9% year-on-year and explained 1.7% of the total.
