The recent hacking of several official sites of the government Argentina has generated great concern and alert in the political and social sphere. However, the government has assured that, according to initial investigations, no personal data was stolen.
This incident that overshadowed the system of Governmentwhich occurred in the middle of Christmas, affected portals such as Mi Argentina and the SUBE card application, among others. The hack occurred on Wednesday night, when several official portals were breached.
The attackers, identified under the pseudonym “h4xx0r1337 $gov.eth”, managed to modify the headers and footers of the affected sites, although the general content was not altered. For more than an hour, the main page of Mi Argentina showed a video of rapper Homer el Mero Mero and mocking messages such as “really? hacked again!?” (really? hacked again?) and “fuck Milei.”
The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, which depends on the Chief of Staff, confirmed the cyber attack and issued a statement in which it questioned the lack of investment to combat this type of computer attacks.
“Once the problem was detected, the data on each page had to be uploaded again and everything returned to normal,” explained sources from the agency. The agency also indicated that a “forensic evaluation” is being carried out to determine the origin of the hack. Although some leaks were reported, they assured that “there were no alterations in the database.”
In addition, they noted that they have no indication that these leaks are related to previous attempts by cybercriminals to alter other official sites, such as the National Atomic Energy Commission page.
Reviews
The hack has generated criticism of the computer security management of the government. From the opposition, it was recalled that last January a loan of 30 million dollars from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) had been approved to implement a Cybersecurity Plan for Critical Information Infrastructures.
However, the impact of said plan has not yet been reflected in a substantial improvement in protection systems. The Ministry of Innovation took advantage of the incident to emphasize the urgency of greater investments in cybersecurity, targeting legislators who did not approve the decree to allocate funds for this area.
