The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, announced that three thousand trucks and buses per year will begin to be manufactured in the country, with an investment of US$ 250 million from the Volkswagen company.
“Today is a great day for us because of what it means to tell the Argentines that we are going to start manufacturing trucks and buses in Argentina with an investment of US$ 250 million, it is an important investment in the automotive sector,” Massa said. when making the announcement.
The announcement was made within the framework of a meeting attended by the Secretary of Industry and Productive Development, José Ignacio de Mendiguren; the CEO of Volkswagen Group Argentina, Marcellus Puig; the director of Corporate Legal and Public Affairs of Volkswagen Group Argentina, María Ángela Stelzer; the director of Government Affairs of Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, Marco Saltini; and representatives of the Automobile Transport Mechanics and Allied Union (Smata).
Massa said that the automotive and auto parts sector is “one of the most competitive and dynamic sectors of our economy”and stressed that the investments that Volkswagen will make in the Córdoba production plant will allow “continue incorporating workers”.
“It represents a central fact of the country project that we have to build, which is to substitute imports with competitive national production but, in addition, building that capacity that the automotive sector has shown to not only produce in Argentina for Argentines, but also to export to the region and the world”, concluded the head of the Palacio de Hacienda.
