The Minister of Economy, Serge Massaand his pair of Health, Carla Vizzettisigned this Monday with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry the extension until November 18, of the agreement, to keep drug prices below inflationas reported by both portfolios.
“The agreement has been working well, this month medicines were almost three points below inflation, and they are also below accumulated and year-on-year inflation,” explained the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Health, Sonia Tarragonawhile stressing that “we will continue to work with the Ministry of Commerce to closely monitor compliance.”
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of Commerce, Matias Tomboliniwho highlighted the “articulated work” between the State and privateand remarked that “the government’s objective is to continue granting predictability and guaranteeing accessible drug prices for the entire population.”
The agreement signed this Monday afternoon extends the agreement signed on July 19, 2022 and contemplates a maximum increase for the next 60 days of up to 1 point below the general Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the previous month for all drugs sold through pharmacies, including over-the-counter drugs.

To define the price of medicines, August 30, 2022 will be taken as the baseline, while the Ministry of Commerce will monitor the evolution of prices in a joint effort with the Ministry of Health.
Representatives from the Industrial Chamber of Argentine Pharmaceutical Laboratories (CILFA), the Argentine Chamber of Medicinal Specialties (CAEME), the Business Chamber of Pharmaceutical Laboratories (COOPERALA), the Argentine Chamber of Producers of Generic Medicines and for Hospital Use (CAPGEN), the Argentine Chamber of Over-the-Counter Medicines (CAPEMVel), the Argentine Pharmaceutical Confederation (COFA), the Argentine Federation of Chambers of Pharmacies (FACAF) and the Association of Owners of Argentine Pharmacies (ASOFAR).
