Saint Dominic.-As in the Modern Revolutionary Party, in Fuerza del Pueblo the fight for the presidential candidacy has begun early.
The particularity of the FP is that the debate occurs between father and son, between Leonel Fernández and Senator Omar Fernández.
In the words of Roberto Rosario, founder and member of the Political Directorate of the FP, the attacks are external and respond to pressure imposed from the PRM, to generate a scenario similar to the one they have.

When speaking on the program Esto No tiene Nombre, Rosario announced that at the next meeting of the Political Directorate he will propose that Leonel Fernández be declared as the presidential candidate of the People’s Force in advance for the 2028 elections.
When questioned about the timing of the Law, the political leader declared that the decision is made in the organization without formally registering the candidate, just as the Dominican Liberation Party did in 2020 and the PRM in 2016.
Rosario stressed that this measure seeks to avoid internal distractions and goes against the internal line of the party, which already has a strong candidate in the figure of Leonel Fernández.
“I am going to formally propose in the first meeting that the Political Directorate has to advance the date of election of the presidential candidate so that in the first three months of next year we will have this decision resolved,” said Rosario.
He assured that this decision would guarantee unity within the People’s Force and allow the party to concentrate on working towards the 2028 elections without the distraction of possible internal fights for the presidential candidacy.
Praise for Omar
The leader also clarified that, although Omar Fernández is an important value within the party and recently elected senator, his role within the organization is not aimed at contesting the presidential candidacy in the immediate future.
“Omar will fulfill his mission in the Senate and will work tirelessly so that his father, the leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo, is the next president,” said Rosario, who also criticized those who, from outside the party, have tried to impose a agenda outside the line drawn by the organization.
The also leader of the FP, Manolo Pichardo, assured that there is a consensus regarding Leonel’s candidacy and that the dispute has been orchestrated by Domingo Contreras, whom he accuses of being disruptive. There are no possible third candidates in the FP.
