The four-year-old boy shot in the back when he was left in the middle of a fight between men in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución, remained in a stable hospital after undergoing surgery.
Police sources informed Télam that the boy, as a result of the gunshot wound to the lower back, suffered a spinal cord injury and a gastric perforation.
The child remained hospitalized in intensive and stable care at the Pedro Elizalde General Children’s Hospital, where exploratory surgery was performed to see the organs that could be affected by the bullet impact.
The event occurred in the afternoon at the corner of Juan de Garay avenue and Lima streetin the Constitución neighborhood, to where members of the 1C Neighborhood Police Station traveled when they were alerted about a man with a gunshot wound.
Police spokesmen informed Télam that once there, the uniformed officers verified that there had been a fight between several men on the street, and that in that context one of them had suffered a bullet wound to the abdomen.
As a result of the shots that were fired, the four-year-old boy was shot in the lower back at the intersection of Lima Oeste and Pavón streets, and it was being investigated whether he happened to pass through the place with a family member.
The boy was taken urgently by a bus driver to the hospital, located about four blocks away.
While the shot man, a Peruvian national, was assisted by an ambulance from the Emergency Medical Care System (SAME) and transferred to the Argerich hospital in La Boca.
The man had a gunshot wound to the abdomen with an entry and exit wound, and was conscious and out of danger, police sources reported.
“His state is lucid and a tomography is being carried out to define the steps to follow,” explained the medical source consulted.
On the other hand, the policemen managed to arrest one of the allegedly involved, a Dominican national, at the corner of Salta and Pavón, from whom a firearm was seized.
